The Cost of Travelling

Travelling the world is not all 5* Resorts and Luxury Hotels… well at least not for us!

Making the decision to travel full time did not happen because we are particularly well off, or because we have loads of money in the bank. It happened because we decided we wanted a change, and realised that we can in fact travel the world, for around the same amount as we were already spending at home!

Think about it. How much do you spend each month of your mortgage/rent, electricity, gas, phones, petrol, insurance, car maintenance etc. Write it down. Add it up. We did, and realised that in many countries we could actually live to the same standard, for far less! For us, we also have the added expense of Cam flying to and from Australia for work, so, after saving money on our living expenses, the money we save pays for his flights!

Put simply, our goal is to travel the world, spending no more (ithan we were at home (when we were sticking to our budget!) which was approximately $AUD4600 or $USD3250. But, as we are still maintaining a car (which needs petrol and rego etc) and other things like a storage unit and contracted mobile phones, we have set our monthly goal at $AUD4250 or $USD3000.

This gives us a daily budget of $AUD140 or $USD100!

***Update – Since Cam was made redundant in Oct 2016 our budget has reduced to $AUD120 or $USD90 per day, a total of around $AUD3650 or $USD2750 per month

As we travel the world we will be reporting our Monthly Expenses, in order to help other families who are interested in this way of life!

You don’t have to be rich to travel the world. You do have to stick to a budget, but if travelling the world is the reward, then we’re all for it.
